Please help me find on old black and white movie I saw as a child.

I saw this movie about 55 years ago (I was about 10) and I have been trying for years to figure out what it was. It was black and white and probably a ‘film noir’ movie from the 30s or 40s. I don’t remember many details but it was about a man on the run (innocent I think) who is helped by a young woman and some children in a village. I think it was in England. It was in contemporary times. I think in one scene the man is hiding under an overturned rowboat. The only scene I really remember was that one of the children – a little girl – comes crying to the young woman because she has let something slip to an adult and she is afraid that she has given away the location of the man. The young woman tries to comfort the little girl by telling her that it was an accident and she didn’t give him away on purpose. It really had the feel of Alfred Hitchcock but doesn’t seem to fit any of his movies. I would LOVE to know what this movie was and get a copy of it if available.

Found it!! The Man in the Net (1959) . Thanks for you suggestions. Found it in IMDBs Film Noir Guide: 745 Films of the Classic Era 1940-1959. Number 741, of course.
